Definitely suffering from "middle of a series"-itis. Felt like this could have been seriously condensed and melded into the next book (haven't read that yet, but it couldn't have been added to the previous book, as there was a significant location/characters change from Book 7 to this book).
Struggled to start this book, as the introductory chapters were a bit meh, but once into it, it was a good blend of world-building, system apocalypse, and narrative, without an overload of "stats" or gamelit stuff.
