Short heartfelt stories that feel very true to life as I know it in Samoa. This collection captures the everyday realities of being young and Samoan - for better or for worse.
Wow. The story gets DARK quicky - some gross and sad descriptions, some real trauma responses, and many moments of characters feeling (and being) absolutely powerless to face the unfamiliar environment they've been thrust in. Maaaaaan the weird is weeeeeird but I love it.
As an Animorphs fan, I had assumptions of what the narrative and character voices would be like. I was wrong, this is different, and it's thrilling! It's the first of 14 books in this series and I can't wait to see what else is in store.
