I Am Legend is quite possibly one of the most interesting vampire stories I have read so far, which is not saying much as my formative years were spent thinking Twilight was peak story telling. I've had many friends who have read this novel complain about the ending, stating that the film did it better. Personally, I prefer the novel's ending. In a story of human vs 'other', it is nice to be faced with the possibility that one man's hope just might not be enough.
This book had the premise to become an integral piece of literature, tackling ideas of love, immortality, and the power of stories. However, the novel seemed to fall a little flat, lacking the deep introspective moments I was expecting. The love between Clyde and Magreb was a shallow sort of love, they were only together because they were the only vampies each other had met. Therefore, the ending felt a little flat - there was no great love lost.
