should be recommended reading for students and teachers alike!
did this inspire me to do more hikes? yes. will i? no
i have had this on my tbr for years waiting for the right time and unfortunately i should have left it there for longer
i like how so much of this book is based on actual conversations with kids rather than someone’s opinions based on observations- plus her experience in the prison system adds a cool perspective. nothing life changing but lots of affirming the lived experience !!
i simply can’t lie and pretend i enjoyed this SORRY
once the magic of the cliff hanger from the last page faded i was left with one million characters, one billion storylines and very little emotional connection to these people. congratulations or condolences about whatever happened cause i don’t care
“You're in a car with a beautiful boy, and he won't tell you that he loves you, but he loves you. And you feel like you've done something terrible, like robbed a liquor store, or swallowed pills, or shoveled yourself a grave in the dirt, and you're tired. You're in a car with a beautiful boy, and you're trying not to tell him that you love him, and you're trying to choke down the feeling, and you're trembling, but he reaches over and he touches you, like a prayer for which no words exist, and you feel your heart taking root in your body, like you've discovered something you don't even have a name for.”
